In 2022, The Maitland Hospital will relocate to a new facility at Metford. My work as a photographer over the past year has been to capture Maitland Hospital as it is now, at the end of this chapter. Over 175 years the hospital has held people through births and deaths and everything in between. In a space that is often defined by protocol and bureaucracy, it is fascinating to see the clues that tell these stories. In the anachronisms and alterations I see the hospital’s history, in decorations and personal touches I see people’s creativity, resourcefulness, their sense of humour and the values they share. In the people who work at Maitland Hospital, I see their dedication, how much they care and the unique contributions they all make.
