Going Home Is Saying Goodbye
This is an ongoing project about my mother’s family and the village they live in. With family and friends spread across Australia and Indonesia, wherever I am there’s a place where I’m not. I know that each time I go to Talikuran, the people I love will be different and so will I. Since childhood, documenting my life and keeping mementos has been a way for me to deal with the sadness of knowing that things change and the fear of losing what I love. I feel a sense of nostalgia even in the present, cherishing and mourning are intertwined. I take these photos knowing that I’ll look back on them one day and they’ll be bittersweet.
